Set against the backdrop of late medieval and early modern northern Italy, this narrative explores the lives of wine porters—immigrants from the Alps and Apennines who labored in cities for survival. Their hard work was crucial to the urban economy, yet they faced mockery and low wages. By establishing Alberto of Villa d'Ogna as their patron saint, they found a sense of respect and identity. However, as their occupation became obsolete, both their contributions and the cult of St. Alberto gradually faded from history, highlighting the enduring struggle of marginalized communities.
