This theme issue offers an updated and exciting survey of some of the best contemporary research currently being undertaken. The methodology of cognitive neuroscience can shed new light on the various psychopathological aspects of psychiatric diseases. This volume covers a discussion of the neurobiological basis of memory formation, the psychopathology of the bodily self and the brain in schizophrenia, the role of self alterations in schizophrenia and depression. The contributions go on to discuss the interaction of self-regulation, interception and pain perception, preclinical modeling of primal emotional affects to develop new anti-depressant drugs, the binding of action and emotion that occur in first-episode schizophrenia, the mentalizing functions, social dysfunction and brain in borderline personality disorder.
