Selectivity in the Synthesis of Cyclic Sulfonamides

Focusing on the assembly of complex organic molecules, this doctoral thesis explores innovative methods for synthesizing amino-containing compounds with aromatic rings. It highlights a significant finding of regioselectivity in intramolecular Heck reactions across various substrates, demonstrating high selectivity in forming new carbon-carbon bonds. The research includes DFT calculations to elucidate the reaction sequence. Combining this regioselective reaction with the removal of an amino-protecting group enabled the successful synthesis of Sceletium alkaloids, including mesembrane, mesembranol, and mesembrine.
