The collection put together by Dr. Günter Frerich over several decades comprises more than 400 prints and drawings by 158 artists. The significance of the Cologne dentist's collection lies in its concise theme: the self-portrait. The collection is comprised of selected works by old masters, as well as self-portraits by artists associated with impressionism, expressionism, and new objectivity ranging from Goya and Max Pechstein to Käthe Kollwitz and Otto Dix.
