Focusing on the experiences of 20 New York City public high school students transitioning to college and work, this study highlights their feelings of unpreparedness and the efforts they undertake to succeed. It critiques the current educational system's neoliberal focus and advocates for critical media literacy as a tool for empowerment. Unique to this research is its data collection method, utilizing both in-person and Facebook interviews, providing insight into the socioeconomic challenges faced by these young individuals and aiming for proactive change.
