This seminar paper explores the applicability of neo-Gramscian perspectives in understanding the development of three market mechanisms in the international climate regime: emissions trading, Clean Development Mechanisms, and Joint Implementation. It concludes that while neo-Gramscian theory effectively explains their genesis, some aspects may be better understood through a governmentality lens.
