Set against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution, this first-hand account provides a unique perspective from Robert Bob Keil, a U.S. cavalryman stationed in the tumultuous Big Bend region from 1913 to 1918. His experiences in the wild borderlands along the Rio Grande reveal insights into significant events such as the Brite Ranch raid, the Porvenir massacre, and the Nevill raid, as well as the pursuit of bandits into Mexico. After his military service, Keil continued to immerse himself in the area as a Civil Service packer, enriching his narrative with personal observations.
