The study explores the perceptions of poverty and literacy among women in Botswana, focusing on two groups: semi-literate and non-literate women living in poverty. Conducted in Old Naledi, Gaborone, it investigates how literacy influences women's understanding of poverty. The research highlights the intersections of gender inequality and illiteracy as exacerbating factors. The researcher, a single Motswana mother, draws on personal experiences of poverty, enriching the qualitative analysis through interviews, observations, and document reviews.
