Focusing on nonrigid image registration, this book explores the integration of information from diverse images acquired through various modalities and at different times. It highlights the application of fluid dynamics and mutual information (MI), comparing it with the sum of squared differences (SSD) as similarity measures. Numerical experiments demonstrate that SSD is optimal for mono-modal registrations, whereas MI excels in multi-modal scenarios, providing insights into their respective advantages in image processing tasks.
