Lorri Glover analyzes the formation of manhood standards and their impact on these young men, revealing how these values evolved into southern nationalism. This transformation played a significant role in shaping the identities of American sons, ultimately leading to their involvement in actions that threatened the unity of the republic they were meant to guide.
