Between 1908 and 1915, major systems like the Oregon Electric Railway and Southern Pacific Red Electrics expanded throughout the region, establishing Portland as a central hub. However, the advent of highways and increased automobile ownership led to the decline of these electric passenger trains, culminating in the early 1930s when only one company remained in service.
