Focusing on the Global Neuronal Workspace (GNW) model of consciousness, this book applies communication theory to analyze consciousness through a formal mathematical lens. Building on earlier frameworks, it employs a previously developed information theory analysis to explore the interactions of cognitive, biological, and social modules within the GNW. The approach draws parallels with statistical physics, resulting in a dynamic threshold for consciousness akin to a phase transition, while introducing a Rate Distortion manifold that reflects the hierarchical constraints influencing conscious experience.
