It contrasts the integrative approach adopted post-Apartheid with previous disintegrative methods. The study examines five projects under the Dignified Places Programme, emphasizing local cultural considerations, community participation, and long-term sustainability. It evaluates the effectiveness of these initiatives through various performance indicators across political, spatial, and socio-economic dimensions, highlighting the importance of integrated planning for socio-economic development.
