Inspired by the 1903 Great San Francisco Earthquake, this orchestral score unfolds in three movements. The first captures the eerie calm before the disaster, hinting at nature's foreboding awareness through sounds of barking dogs and fleeing birds. The second movement serves as a poignant memorial to the immense loss of life, while the final movement conveys the catastrophic intensity of the earthquake's destruction. Initially composed as a viola concerto in 2012, it showcases a powerful narrative through music, reflecting on a pivotal historical event.
