The dissertation investigates the socioeconomic effects of land reform schemes in Northeast Brazil, specifically analyzing the interplay between state-led and market-based approaches to land reallocation from 1997 to 2002. It employs various empirical methods, including panel data analysis and field-based research, to assess how different indicators influenced the growth of rural territories. The study highlights the impact of the market-based Land Bill Programme (PCT) and the traditional state-led scheme (INCRA) on local socioeconomic development, offering insights for future policy formulation.
