Globalizing the Prehistory of Japan

Challenging conventional views, this work reexamines the prehistory of Japanese society, particularly during the transition from the Jomon to Yayoi cultures. It highlights unique developments such as bronze and iron production, significant architectural changes, and the emergence of a hierarchical society led by an emperor. Contrary to the belief that Yayoi innovations originated from China and Korea, new evidence suggests they stemmed from southern influences, offering crucial insights into the origins of Japanese civilization and its identity.
