Agriculture in Nicaragua: Promoting Competitiveness and Stimulating Broad-Based Growth

Focusing on Nicaragua's agricultural sector, this study emphasizes the importance of broad-based growth for improving the living standards of the rural poor. It argues that enhancing agricultural competitiveness, particularly through export growth, is crucial for economic development. Using coffee as a case study, the research identifies productivity constraints in rural factor markets and proposes both medium- and long-term solutions. Additionally, it addresses risk management issues and highlights promising pilot projects that could support these strategies.
