The dissertation explores the factors influencing the survival of initiatives from foreign R&D subsidiaries within a multinational corporation. Key findings indicate that survival rates improve with closer social and geographical ties to headquarters, alignment with core activities, and a manager's successful track record. Initiatives focusing on exploitative innovation are favored over those proposing exploratory innovation. Interestingly, inter-subsidiary collaboration does not significantly impact survival. The research offers insights for both theoretical frameworks and practical management strategies.
