Focusing on the experiences of families of the missing due to conflict and political violence, this work critiques transitional justice practices in Nepal and Timor-Leste. It highlights how these practices often reflect elite agendas that overlook the specific needs of predominantly poor and rural victims. By contrasting global human rights discourses with local realities, the book aims to reveal the shortcomings of current transitional justice processes and advocates for a victim-centered approach that prioritizes the unique cultural and contextual needs of those affected.
