An esteemed conservationist and children's author, Thornton Waldo Burgess dedicated over five decades to celebrating nature through storytelling. Known as the Bedtime Story-Man, he penned more than 170 books and contributed 15,000 stories to his newspaper column, Bedtime Stories. His upbringing in Sandwich, Massachusetts, after his father's early death, instilled in him a deep appreciation for the natural world, which became the focal point of his writing and advocacy for wildlife conservation.
