Set in January 2008, the narrative follows Mike and his wife, Sylvia, as they embark on a teaching adventure in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Sylvia, an experienced teacher, and Mike, with basic Portuguese skills, face the challenges of instructing a lively group of students from diverse backgrounds. Their journey includes a memorable train ride to the historic town of Ouro Preto and culminates with an eye-opening visit to a favela in Rio. The couple arrives as strangers but departs with lasting friendships and enriching experiences.
