The thesis explores occupational mobility through two main sections. It first discusses theoretical frameworks, emphasizing the vertical re-sorting approach, which better reflects real-world wage variations post-career change. The second part analyzes occupational mobility rates, motivations for job changes, and transition matrices from various countries, with a specific focus on Austria. It investigates the preferences of Austrian workers regarding occupational shifts and identifies individual characteristics influencing their decisions to change careers.
