From Teacher's Guide to Social Change: The Role of History Textbooks in Post-Apartheid South Africa

Focusing on the impact of apartheid on everyday lives, this study explores the effectiveness of Grade 9 Oral History Project guidelines within the CAPS Social Sciences curriculum. It critiques the Oxford Successful textbook's ability to foster historical understanding among learners, particularly in the context of Geography and History integration. The author's experiences as a novice teacher prompted this investigation into how well these guidelines support conceptual development, especially given that Grade 9 serves as an exit level for students.
