As air raids loom, they seek refuge in shelters until they escape to Bavaria. After a grueling twelve-day trek back home in 1945, they navigate life in an American zone. The arrival of new currency brings hope, leading Fritz to complete his apprenticeship by 1955. Ultimately, after various jobs, he embarks on a journey to the United States, seeking a better future.
