The paper examines the surge in global biofuel production and its impact on land rights in Africa, where weak protections leave rural communities vulnerable to dispossession by foreign investors. It argues that effective land title formalization must respect secondary rights for marginalized groups and involve local communities in negotiations. Through case studies from Ghana and Mozambique, it highlights failures in current land tenure reforms and advocates for land distribution as a less conflict-prone solution that prioritizes long-term benefits over one-time compensations.
