Focusing on the contemporary Haitian diaspora in New York City, the book explores the immigrants' adaptation to American society while maintaining connections to their homeland. It employs a critical transnational perspective to analyze their border-crossing practices and reexamines the concept of diasporic citizenship in light of globalization's evolving dynamics. The historical context of the nineteenth-century Haitian diaspora is briefly addressed, setting the stage for a deeper understanding of current issues faced by the community.
