Transportation costs significantly impact trade within the East African Community, acting as a barrier despite tariff reductions. This study evaluates how high freight costs and cumbersome procedures hinder investment and trade flows, particularly focusing on road transit from Mombasa to Rwanda via the Northern Transport Corridor. The findings aim to inform academics and policymakers about the challenges of economic and political integration in East Africa, offering insights that could be applicable to broader African development efforts.
