Faulkner's complex relationship with American popular culture significantly shaped his modernist fiction. By applying Theodor Adorno's theories, Lurie analyzes works such as Sanctuary and Absalom! Absalom!, highlighting Faulkner's use of cinematic techniques, voyeurism, and popular forms like melodrama. This study reveals how Faulkner's art reflects and critiques the cultural landscape of his time.
