Focusing on urban intermarriages in India, this qualitative study examines how couples negotiate household resources amid diverse norms shaped by class, caste, and ethnicity. Utilizing an intersectionality framework, it highlights the interplay of gender, caste, class, and ethnicity in the bargaining process. The research emphasizes women's agency as they navigate these complex structures, revealing how personal traits influence decision-making. Through case studies of sixteen couples, the study illustrates the nuanced dynamics of choice and interpretation within intermarried households.
