Focusing on the role of statistics in shaping national identity, this study delves into how numerical data influenced perceptions of Italy during the nineteenth century. Silvana Patriarca analyzes the ideologies behind statistical representations and their impact on Italy's national image, highlighting the internal territorial divisions that persisted. By addressing the interplay of science, ideology, and representation, this work offers a new perspective on the historiography of Risorgimento Italy.
