Focusing on the historical context and methodology of presidential elections in the United States, this paper explores the evolution of the electoral process from its inception to the 2000 election. It highlights the founding fathers' creation of the electoral college as a solution to the challenges of informed voting in the early 1800s. The analysis includes a critique of the electoral system's weaknesses, particularly as demonstrated in the 2000 election, and concludes with alternative proposals for reforming the election process to enhance voter intelligence and decision-making.
