Diet of primates in the sacred forest of Kikélé in Benin

The study focuses on the primate populations and their food sources in the sacred forest of Kikélé, northern Benin. Researchers conducted a thorough inventory, identifying three primate species: the nocturnal Galago senegalensis and two diurnal species, Cercopithecus mona and Colobus vellerosus. Over 90 days, they documented 35 plant species for C. vellerosus, 39 for C. mona, and 12 for G. senegalensis, highlighting the dietary preferences of each species, with G. senegalensis feeding exclusively on ripe fruits, while the others consume fruits and leaves, predominantly from Leguminosae and mesophanerophytes.
