Assessing the ecological status of the Hróarslækur River

Focusing on the ecological assessment of rivers, the book presents a river classification method adapted for Southern Iceland, based on previous applications in Austria and Switzerland. It categorizes river sections into four ecological status categories, using the Hróarslækur river near Hella as a case study. The research includes measurements of electrical conductivity and water temperature to evaluate water quality. The findings reveal that the Hróarslækur river sections predominantly fall into the highest ecological class, indicating a good ecological condition overall.
