The work investigates the potential of ionic liquids in facilitating novel metal carbonyl chemistry. It explores the reactivity of metal carbonyls within imidazolium-based ionic liquids, leading to the synthesis of various innovative metal carbonyl, coordination, and network compounds. Notable examples include complex structures involving iron and tin, as well as coordination with different ionic liquids. This study highlights the unique interactions and possibilities offered by ionic liquids in the field of metal carbonyl chemistry.
