Focusing on Zambia's agro-processing sector, this study emphasizes the significant role of food processing, which constitutes a large portion of manufacturing output. The rising demand for processed foods, fueled by increasing incomes and urbanization, has attracted investments from local and foreign firms. The expansion of South African supermarket chains has created vital market access for suppliers. However, domestic firms face challenges in upgrading capabilities and participating in agro-food value chains, highlighting the need for improvements in quality, design, and distribution.
