Focusing on the lives of five extraordinary sixteenth-century women, this study highlights the Cooke sisters, who were among the few Tudor women to receive a formal humanist education. Their connections through influential marriages to Elizabethan politicians further enriched their experiences. Drawing on their own writings, including works in classical languages, the book offers a detailed analysis of Mildred, Anne, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Katherine Cooke, illuminating their contributions and significance in a male-dominated society.
