Exploring the portrayal of women in Spanish theater during the Golden Age, this work focuses on Tirso de Molina's use of female disguise and cross-dressing as a means for women to navigate societal constraints and gain power. It argues for a power dynamics approach over psycho-sexual interpretations, highlighting the risks of losing control over personal identity through masquerade. Aimed at scholars of Spanish Golden Age theater, it also offers insights for those studying English theater, feminist perspectives, and gender and sexuality studies.
