Focusing on cultural heritage policy in Central and Eastern Europe, this dissertation explores the impact of decentralization and private stakeholder involvement on sustainability in economic and conservation aspects. It critically evaluates reforms initiated by organizations like UNESCO and the European Union, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods across various nation states. The findings indicate that the shift from centralized preservation systems does not necessarily lead to improved financial or conservation outcomes, revealing complex repercussions of these changes.
