Warren James Field was born in Ferrisburg, Vermont in 1923. After graduating from Vergennes High School in 1942, he entered the University of Vermont on a scholarship.After one semester he enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he served three years in the South Pacific on Saipan , Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the ground crew of VMB-612. This was a Marine Corps B-25 Bomber Squadron operating against Japanese shipping.
