This book is a collection of sketches and drawings by the noted American artist Joseph Pennell, based on his travels in the Middle East in the early 20th century. It includes over 150 illustrations of temples, ruins, and landscapes, as well as Pennell's vivid descriptions of the places he visited and the people he met. The book also includes an introduction by the art critic Roger Fry, who discusses Pennell's place in the history of American art.
