No philosophical idea has influenced international relations and world politics more profoundly than human rights. In the decades since World War II, human rights have emerged as the only universally accepted value system. The Vienna Manual on Human Rights, designed for the multidisciplinary Vienna Master of Arts in Human Rights, offers future professionals an insightful introduction to the complex world of human rights, encompassing universal and regional organizations, standards, and protection mechanisms. It addresses a wide range of rights, including civil, political, economic, social, cultural, and collective rights, as well as the rights of specific groups such as children, the elderly, indigenous peoples, and women. The Manual emphasizes contemporary issues and challenges, including environmental protection, climate change, counter-terrorism, democratization, and the impact of new social media.
