Viac o knihe
A man, two marriages, two failures. The son of conventional and rigid provincial bourgeois, Philippe marries the alluring Odile despite his parents' hostility. The couple ultimately falls apart. Remarried to Isabelle de Cheverny, whom he loves deeply though she is the complete opposite of Odile, Philippe now subjects the young woman to all the torments he has endured. Why is love not enough? What traps do the secrets of the soul and the surrounding world prepare for us? In this masterpiece of analytical fiction published in 1928, André Maurois, a subtle psychologist and accomplished writer, sheds light on the complexities of married life and its challenges in a way that remains surprisingly modern.
