He was a hard-working man, an icon in his own right. He carried on, as he always had done, and wanted to make love just as most people do. But not quite… There was something about him that made him different. His affection for her was strange, and he was stuck in a pattern of behaviors that were inflexible. The problems were piling up. His wife developed ways of dealing with the issue, and so it went on. He got worse, and chaos evolved. At the same time he became more easily managed. The Non-stop lover was a patient I met several years ago. His illness illustrates the many ways in which a brain disease may manifest itself. As I hope to convey to you through the stories of this book, there is most often a thin line between harmony and chaos, between function and dysfunction, between normal and disease. This book contains stories about patients that I have met. This is their story.
