Viac o knihe
Dover in the 1860s, and three women with very different lives... Fanny discovering her first love, Ellie who desperately wants to become respectable, Jessie struggling to live on an inadequate income... And the men who rule and determine their lives, and the chapel where the men can't agree... Set against a background of nineteenth century England, this is a sympathetic portrayal of men struggling with issues of doctrine and leadership, and the women whose lives are bound up with theirs. A beautifully crafted story whose characters come alive on the page to produce a thoroughly absorbing read.
