Ještě několik týdnů a ... Jenže Tallyina kamarádka Shay si není zcela jistá, zda chce být krásná. Když uteče na utajené místo zvané Kouř, Tally pozná odvrácenou stranu světa krásných. Úřady ji postaví před nejhorší volbu, jakou si dokáže představit: buď najde svoji kamarádku a přivede ji zpět, nebo nikdy nebude krásná. Rozhodnutí, které učiní, její navždy změní život.

Geburtstag entgegenfiebert, an dem sie in einer der Routineoperationen von einem Ugly in eine Pretty verwandelt werden wird, um von Uglyville nach Prettytown zu ziehen und einfach nur noch Spaß zu haben. Zweifel am Schönheitswahn? Angst vor Identitätsverlust? Solche Gedanken sind Tally fremd. Doch dann flieht ihre Freundin Shay in die geheime Stadt Smoke, gegründet von den Gegnern dieser ZweiStufenGesellschaft. Die Behörden zwingen Tally, ihre Freundin zu suchen und Smoke zu verraten. Doch in Smoke erfährt sie von der unschönen Seite der heilen PrettyWelt, einer Seite voller dunkler Geheimnisse... Was zählt mehr? Schönheit oder Einzigartigkeit? Ein hübsches Gesicht oder freie, eigene Gedanken? All diesen Fragen stellt sich der Autor (zuletzt BA 4/07) mit diesem aufwühlenden, kritischen Jugendroman. Ein drastisches Spiegelbild unserer Gesellschaft, das den Leser durch seine Direktheit und Unverfrorenheit zum Nachdenken anregt. Ein äußerst gelungener Roman sehr zu empfehlen!. Tally lebt in einer zukünftigen Welt, in der einzig Schönheit zählt. Sie fiebert ihrem 16. Geburtstag und der damit verbundenen üblichen SchönheitsOP entgegen doch dann bekommt ihre heile PrettyWelt plötzlich Risse ... Ab 13.

    Tally je konečne krásna. Jej výzor je dokonalý, jej oblečenie je úžasné, jej frajer je totálne sexi a ona je najpopulárnejšia, nová krásna. Má všetko po čom túžila. Ale za všetkou zábavou - nekončiacimi večierkami, high-tech luxusom a úplnou slobodou - je ťaživý pocit, že niečo nie je v poriadku. Niečo dôležité. A potom dostane Tally správu zo svojej škaredej minulosti. Musí sa rozhodnúť či chce zabudnúť, alebo bude bojovať za svoj život, pretože autority nemajú v úmysle nechať na žive nikoho, kto vie o Dyme a starých škaredých.
