Gudrun Pausewang, geboren am 3. März 1928 in Wichstadt/Ostböhmen, studierte am Pädagogischen Institut in Wiesbaden, war vier Jahre lang Lehrerin in Hessen und von 1956 bis 1963 an deutschen Schulen in Chile und Venezuela tätig. Von 1968 bis 1972 arbeitete sie als Lehrerin in Kolumbien, ab 1973 an einer Grundschule in Süddeutschland. Eindrücke ihrer Aufenthalte in Lateinamerika spiegeln sich nicht nur in ihrem Buch «Südamerika aus erster Hand», sondern auch in ihren Romanen und Erzählungen wider.
