Není pochyb o tom, že hrdinka románu Pýcha a předsudek, Lízinka, je sama Jane Austenová (1775-1817). Přestože prožila tak typicky nekonfliktní život (nikdy se neprovdala a jediné nabídnutí k sňatku prý během hodiny důrazně odmítla), neobráží se v jejím díle žádná osudová hořkost.
