    Hoci je Clement Clarke Moore dnes známejší ako autor básne „Návšteva svätého Mikuláša“, za svojho života bol váženým profesorom literatúry a polyglotom. Jeho akademická práca zahŕňala štúdium orientálnych jazykov a zostavenie hebrejského slovníka. Moore bol hlboko spojený s New Yorkom, kde daroval pozemok teologickému semináru a kde po ňom bola pomenovaná jedna mestská štvrť. Jeho literárny odkaz dnes žije predovšetkým prostredníctvom jeho slávneho vianočného verša, ktorý sa stal neoddeliteľnou súčasťou sviatočných tradícií.
