Začala písať ako dvanásťročná a jej prvý román vyšiel, keď mala sedemnásť. So svojou hrou Otec musí jesť (Papa doit manger) sa stala po dvadsiatich rokoch prvou ženskou autorkou uvedenou v repertoári Comédie - Française. Goncourtovu cenu získala za román Tri mocné ženy (Trois femmes puissantes). V roku 2009 sa s rodinou rozhodla opustiť Francúzsko a usadila sa v Berlíne. Román Ladivine (Ladivine) bol nominovaný na Bookerovu cenu a ďalšie medzinárodné ocenenia.

Forty-year-old Norah leaves Paris, her family and her career as a lawyer to visit her father in Dakar.
