Kepler (1571-1630) is renowned as an astronomer, mathematician, and optician, but his poetic talents are less recognized. His first astronomical work, composed at 24, opens with two poems and concludes with a 32-hexameter hymn praising God as the world's creator. Throughout his life, Kepler continued to write poetry, showcasing originality, humor, and wit. Many scholars of the Early Modern period composed poetry in Latin, and Kepler's works are predominantly in this language. This edition features a parallel German translation for each Latin poem, maintaining the original metre. A comprehensive commentary interprets the poems, explores historical contexts, clarifies challenging passages, and provides brief biographical notes on referenced individuals.
